PUBLIC FUNDING
Public funding
The work of Burundikids e.V. is supported in part by public sponsors, such as the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Engagement Global – a central service centre of the BMZ -, the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden Württemberg and the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation.
As we are a non-profit organisation committed to development policy issues, we can apply for public development cooperation funding to support individual projects. These application procedures can be very time-consuming. This also means that we are examined as an organisation in what is known as a sponsorship audit: Is our non-profit status given, are our finances in order, do we have the resources to run projects sustainably? The project application can only be submitted after a successful audit. Funding is only ever provided on a pro rata basis.
In order to realise the projects together with a public sponsor, own funds are always required. Examples of projects that have been implemented with public funds include part of the Ecole Polyvalente Carolus Magnus school, the expansion of the Centre Médical Hippocrate hospital and cooperation with small farmers and cooperatives in the north of Burundi.
