ABOUT US
The crucial realization of our world today is that we share it. What one person does also affects others. No one can act for themselves alone. This offers opportunities and responsibility for the future of future generations. For everyone, everywhere in the world.
Burundikids e.V. is a non-profit, non-denominational and politically independent association founded in 2003 by the architect Martina Wziontek.
We deliberately focus our work on supporting the independence of particularly disadvantaged people. The promotion of girls and young women, health, education, child protection, women’s rights, combating poverty and protecting the environment are the overriding goals of our practical work on the ground.
Our local partner organization in Burundi is the Fondation Stamm. Its director Verena Stamm, who has lived in Burundi since 1972, and her team ensure that funding and donations flow directly and without detours into the project work.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
(Martin Luther King Jr.)
DEVELOPMENTAL WORK
In addition to the projects in Burundi, Burundikids e.V. contributes to development education in Germany and networks with other actors in international cooperation. Our volunteers and employees organize lectures, readings and discussions at schools, universities and for the public. They also run information stands at various events such as street parties, festivals and trade fairs. In this way, we promote cultural exchange, respect and tolerance. We also support Burundi’s official country partnership with Baden-Württemberg.
ORGANIZATION & TRANSPARENCY
A large number of supporters contribute to the joint success of the association. Here you can find all information about Burundikids e.V. according to the guidelines of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative:
BURUNDI KIDS (FILM)
Music is an important element in Burundi, and drumming in particular is very popular. The short film by BURUNDI KIDS focuses on joie de vivre, hope and opportunities that are denied to many children and young people. Our Burundian colleagues show that things can be done differently – we have been supporting them for many years with BURUNDI KIDS and have already achieved a great deal. The film was shot by Marc Comes (director), Carina Neubohn (camera) and Carlo Heller (sound). Together with Martina Wziontek and Gabi Hahn, board members of Burundikids e.V., they traveled to Burundi for the shoot. You can find more videos from Burundi on our YouTube channel.
OUR FOUNDING HISTORY
Here we share with you some important moments in our founding history
Cooperation on site – Fondation Stamm
Coordination, organization and cost control on site are in the hands of a project manager with local knowledge and expertise. The former nurse Verena Stamm (Fondation Stamm) has lived in Burundi since 1972. On her own initiative, she founded the first two homes for 50 street children and orphans in 2000 and in the following years during the turmoil of the civil war.
She knows the political, ethnic, moral and cultural characteristics of Burundi and has many contacts with authorities and organizations. Contact between Burundikids e.V. in Germany and Fondation Stamm in Burundi is therefore direct, unbureaucratic and transparent – a prerequisite for effective aid.
